"Loss of
Consortium" and Emotional Distress Claims in Sling Fall Case
The California Court of Appeal, 2d
District, in a May decision, affirmed an award of over half a million
dollars to a woman who fell out of a sling on a lift system used to get
her from the bed to the bathroom and affirmed the trial court’s decision
that her husband suffered no emotional distress, but reversed the trial
court’s finding that the husband suffered no loss of consortium.

Pulse Survey: A Useful Marketplace Gauge
WSTDA’s quarterly Quick Pulse Survey
indicates that following the second quarter of 2011, a majority of
members expect sluggish to normal growth, with about 23% of respondents
expecting above-normal growth, in the next 12 months.

Products Policy
Last fall, WSTDA unveiled a new set of
warnings products available in English, Spanish and French. The new
warnings include fabric warning labels for web slings, round slings and
tie downs and paper safety bulletins for web slings, round slings and

Rope
On May 6, 2011, WSTDA Member Bishop
Lifting Products, Inc. was the recipient of the Crane & Rigging Support
– Silver award in Houston Business Roundtable’s Safety Excellence
competition. The competition recognizes greater Houston-area Industrial
Contractors for outstanding safety performance.
