Bishop Lifting Products Receives Safety Excellence Award; Acquires Florida Wire Rope

On May 6, 2011, WSTDA Member Bishop Lifting Products, Inc. was the recipient of the Crane & Rigging Support – Silver award in Houston Business Roundtable’s Safety Excellence competition. The competition recognizes greater Houston-area Industrial Contractors for outstanding safety performance. Following its nomination by BP for the award, Bishop Lifting Products was required to submit OSHA-required safety data for fatalities, lost workday cases, recordable injuries and illnesses, copies of safety policies and procedures and documentation of safety best practices. Following a formal review process, 33 companies were chosen to receive field audits to assess onsite safety programs.

Matthew Wilson, QHSE Manager at Bishop Lifting Products, said “it was an extreme honor to be nominated and to receive the silver safety award for Crane & Rigging Support. Recognition should be given to every individual employee at Bishop; starting with the executive management who places such a great emphasis on safety, to all employees who follow the safe practices on a daily basis.”

In other news, Bishop Lifting Products finalized the acquisition of West Florida Wire Rope, a wire rope and rigging shop in Panama City, Florida, on June 30, 2011. West Florida Wire Rope (WFWR) has been serving marine and onshore customers along the Gulf Coast of Florida since 1993, but was founded over 30 years ago as Carolina Chain & Cordage by Bill and Babbs Rochester (Rochester Wire Rope family). Ralph Bowdish purchased the company in 1993 and it became WFWR. Specializing in wire rope, cordage, marine rigging hardware, and slings, WFWR will now be able to provide their customers Bishop Lifting Products’ extensive line of products, services and solutions. This marks BLP’s first expansion into Florida and the eastern end of the Gulf of Mexico. This becomes BLP’s seventh national location.
